COSTS - Payment/Shipping/Discounts/Other
Shipping will take place from mid-April to mid-May for bare root trees. On bare root tree pre-orders (June-January) we will defer payments until January. For pre-orders over $1000 ( late May to March 20), a 25% deposit will be taken with full payment by March 20.
From January to mid-May payments will be taken soon after the order is confirmed by us.
For seed sales payment is taken on ordering. Orders are taken from September 1 to December 1. Delivery of seed will take place after harvest, usually mid-October to late November. We will prepare seed for stratification and send instructions for handling with the seed.
For all other sales, payment will be taken on ordering and delivery will take place immediately.
A 10% restocking fee will be charged on all cancelled orders after March 1.
All payments must be completed before shipping. Payments by check must have time to clear before shipping, so we do not accept checks after April 1 except for pickup orders.
American orders are quoted in US dollars and are to be paid in US funds. This helps to cover the extra cost of inspection, brokerage and shipping across the border. Most of these costs are paid by us in US funds. Shipping and handling rates are given on the order form or appear at the checkout.
Customers may pay by the following methods: cash, US or Canadian personal or business check, money order, (for US customers, international money order), Visa and MasterCard. Please do not send cash in the mail. We require 3 weeks for checks to clear before we ship.
Movement Inspection & Certificate for Alberta & British Columbia
Please note that we are required to get an inspection and movement certificate for gypsy moth from the plant protection office to ship trees to Alberta and BC in Canada. This is an added cost of $12.
For all Trees shipped to Ontario and Quebec, we use Canpar. Trees that are shipped to the rest of Canada go by Canada Post. For small orders, under $300, all trees that are longer than 2 feet will need a longer box than the standard 1 m long box. To accommodate the tops, we will need to use an oversize box. Canada post charges us $10 extra for oversize and we need to pass this on. Please note that shipping and handling charges may change without notice.
Minimum Shipping BC AB & Maritimes: $35.00 + $10 if oversize.
Minimum Shipping ON, QC, MB, SK: $30.00 + $10 oversize for MB and SK
Minimum Shipping to US: $30.00
Net Tree Orders over $200.00: add 15%
Net Tree Orders over $1000.00: add 10%
Net Tree Orders over $3000.00: add 9%
Tree Orders over $1000.00: less 5%
Tree Orders over $2000.00: less 10%
Tree Orders over $4000.00: less 11%
Members of the Ontario Hazelnut Association (OHA) receive a 5% additional discount on orders over $1000.00.
Payment made by cash, check or money order will receive a 2% discount on orders over $200.
Note: Discounts only apply to tree orders paid in full before delivery and may change without notice. Discounts are only on trees and not on any other product sold.
HST will be collected at the rate required by individual provinces and for all pick up customers at the Ontario rate. Otherwise all provinces will be required to pay GST. American customers that have their order shipped do not pay tax.
Hours of Operation
We are open daily from 10-5, 12-5 on Sundays for a limited selection of potted trees, nuts and other products during spring, summer and fall. Since we have limited staff during the summer and winter which are our off-seasons, there may be days when we are closed. If you are coming from a distance it would be best to contact us.
Our address is 979 Lakeshore Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada L0S 1J0.
Potted trees are priced higher than the bare root spring sales because of the added expense of labour, materials and maintenance. Email or call ahead to be sure that what you want is available. Fresh nuts are available from early October until sold out
All of our trees are spring dug and shipped or picked up as soon as weather permits. Our shipping season starts mid-April and ends the second week of May for some plants and the third week of May for the rest. For American orders, the cut-off date is the first week of May. WE DO NOT SHIP TREES OR SCION WOOD TO EUROPE. NO TREES ARE SHIPPED IN THE FALL.
Products shipped to most Ontario & Quebec locations will be delivered by Canpar, so street addresses are required not box numbers. All other provinces will receive their parcels in the mail by Canada Post, usually to their local or assigned postal outlet.
All parcels to the United States will be shipped by UPS through our freight forwarder. Sorry we cannot send nuts for eating or seed to the USA due to FDA bioterrorism law requirements.
We include planting and care instructions with all tree orders, but no packing slips, so it is important that you save a copy of the order confirmation placed with us.
We guarantee that our trees will leaf out and grow, provided they are handled properly, following the planting instructions provided with the trees. A statement to that effect must be in writing and a picture of the failed tree(s) may be required as proof. In some instances we require the return of the tree(s) or in the case of grafted trees, the grafted portion for evaluation.
Losses due to a poor planting site, wet location, improper soil, more than one killing frost event, a planting in a zone not recommended, neglect, lawn mower or dog chain damage, etc. are not covered. Losses must be reported before September 1 but not sooner than June 20 for full replacement compensation. All such trees will be replaced free of charge the following spring. We do not guarantee trees that do not survive the winter. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to protect the trees adequately for the first winter even if they are in a recommended plant zone.
