Plantra® Tree Shelters
Tree shelters are designed to encourage growth, tree health and survival. They help the trees grow straight, supress low branches, maintain a central leader and act as a mini greenhouse. They also protect the tree from chemical sprays that are applied to kill weeds. Plantra® has developed the ideal color, design and standard tube diameter for best results, unlike nested shelters that are a variety of diameters. We are the proud Canadian agent for Plantra® products.

We recommend our 2 foot shelters for trees in the 1-2 ft size. These are our budget open sided shelters ('C' shape as viewed from above). We staple the sides together to close them around a vine or tree and support it with a stake inside the tube. Alternatively, a plastic tie can be used to close the tube around a stake. The tree shelter will help the tree to grow straight, suppress low branches, maintain a central leader and act as a mini greenhouse. All of our nursery grafted trees were started with this size tube. A 3 or 4 foot stake is required to secure the shelter.

We recommend our 5 foot tall (58") SunFlex (closed sided), vented deer tubes for our grafted and seedling trees in the 3-6 foot size. These shelters are made with the optimum diameter for best growth and health of the trees. Aside from the growth benefits, these shelters prevent deer from browsing on the tops. Support them with a 6 foot wood or bamboo stake not included. Minimum order 10 unless ordered with trees. Deer cannot reach higher than 140 cm (4 1/2 feet), so our 6 foot shelter will protect your trees from deer browsing and acts as a mini greenhouse for protection from strong drying winds.

These bamboo poles are recommended for the 2-3 foot tree shelters and for staking trees. They are sold separately and shipping is extra. We cannot ship bamboo to the USA.

The seven foot bamboo stakes are best for 4-6 foot trees and 6 foot tree shelters. Pick up only. They cannot be shipped because of their size and weight.

These 3/8 inch x 4 foot white fiberglass stakes are recommended for the 2-3 foot tree shelters. They can also be used as snow stakes, tomato stakes, garden stakes or light fencing stakes.These sturdy poles are UV coated for a long life. They will not rot, shred or rust. Use gloves to handle them. Unlike bamboo, fiberglass poles are allowed to be shipped to the USA.

Our 6 foot x 3/8 inch fiberglass stakes are suited for our 5 & 6 foot shelters or for the shorter shelters that can be used to tie the tree as it grows above the shelter. It is flexible enought that if an animal pushes on it, it will spring back upright without breaking. Fiberglass stakes are smooth coated to prevent splitting or damage. All our maintenance free fiberglass stakes are smooth coated, UV protected and won't rot or rust.
Minimum shipping order 20 stakes and can't be shipped with trees. There is also an oversize carrier charge of $15 above the price of the shipping. When ordered there will be a delay to have a shipping price approved by you.

Our 7 foot x 12mm (1/2 inch) fiberglass stakes are suited for our 5 & 6 foot shelters or for the shorter shelters that can be used to tie the tree as it grows above the shelter. Our Canadian made galvanized post pounder at 62 cm (24.5”) long and weighing 1.1 kg (2.5 lb) makes short work of driving the fiberglass stakes for your tree shelters. Simply slide the stake into the pounder and then place the stake where it needs to go. Push the stake into the soft ground, then raise the pounder and drop it down over the stake driving it into the ground repeatedly until the satisfactory depth is achieved.
To remove the stake at a later date, slide the drilled hole at the end of the pounder over the stake and pull up.
