Heartnuts, In-shell
To crack heartnuts for eating, stand them on edge on a solid surface (like a brick) and tap them gently on the suture (seam) with a hammer until they pop open. Our Kenkel nut cracker works well here.

The hard shell breaks easily with firm tapping with a hammer on an anvil or a rock. Our Master Nut Cracker or a vise will also do a good job.
